SATELLITE OCEANOGRAPHY

Maurizio Migliaccio, University of Naples "Parthenope", Italy

Satellite remote sensing has fostered a new era in the observation of seas. Synoptic view has allowed to have an unprecedented look at physical phenomena that were only predicted by theory. But even al smaller observational scale the benefit of satellite remote sensing has proved to be essential to new generation forecast models. The focus of this talk will be on microwave satellite remote sensing sensors and their benefit in operational sea observation as well in the development of new understandings.
